Tiger wins his own Golf Tournement

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods has won the AT&T National at Congressional.

Tiger Woods who was the host of the tournement has won by defeating Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan.

Woods and Kim were tied for the lead heading into the final round at -10 and would be paired together for the very first time at Congressional Country Club.

But, Before Kim and Woods would tee off, Hunter Mahan had begun his charge for the lead playing a very solid round of golf which meant he would finish with a score of 62 to complete the tournement at -12 which Kim and Tiger would have to beat.

Kim started with a birdie but made 2 bogeys to finish his final round with a score of 71 to finish at -9 meaning he would be third at the tournement he won last year.

Woods meanwhile only made one bogey on his round along with 4 birdies to finish at 13 under par and beat Mahan by one stroke.

Woods said earlier in the tournement that he wanted “to be a greedy host” and win his own tournement and done so today.

Kim may have been victim to the aura of Tiger but it can only help to improve his game and maybe one day we will be calling Anthony Kim the world number 1.

Nationwide Tour Players Cup Round 1

Brad Iles

New Zealand’s Brad Iles leads the Nationwide Tour Players Cup after round one after posting a round of 7-under-par 65 late Thursday afternoon. Iles holds a one-stroke margin over Canadian Brad Fritsch and a two-shot edge over Ron Whittaker, Steve Wheatcroft and Brian Stuard.

Iles slowly moved up the leaderboard late in the day thanks to eight birdies that were evenly spaced out on each nine.

Fritsch was leading but it was brief, lasting only about 30 minutes before Iles — who was playing in the penultimate group took over. Fritsch’s round was highlighted by six birdies in an eight-hole stretch but the real credit went to his play off the tee. The 31-year old  hit 13 of 14 fairways (93 percent), well above a season average that checks in just below 65 percent.

Other First Round Notes:

• Two-time winner Kevin Johnson, No. 2 on the Nationwide Tour money list and the leading money winner in this week’s field, posted a 3-over 75. Johnson made two double bogeys and a triple bogey on his opening nine and shot a 6-over 42. He then made three birdies on the inward nine for a 33.

• Jason Enloe, a playoff winner of last week’s Fort Smith Classic fired a 2-under 70 and is tied for 25th.

• Neal Lancaster (79) withdrew from the Golf Tournement after the first round.

The second round gets underway tomorrow and we will keep you up to date with all the results.

First Round of The Euopean Tour Saint Omer Open

Andersson-Hed

Sweden’s Fredrik Andersson Hed, shot six birdies in an almost perfect opening round of 65 to claim a one-stroke lead on the first day of the European Tour Saint-Omer Open.

The 37 year old swede edged ahead of the Australians Michael Curtain and Tony Carolan as the best of the morning starters.

Andersson Hed, who started at the 10th hole, began with a birdie and added another at the 15th to turn at two under.

After a succession of 4 pars, he then made birdie on four of his final five holes to move to the top of the leaderboard in the dual ranking event, which carries a prize fund of €600,000.

Andersson Said:
“I had a very pleasing day at the office, I only hit a couple of bad tee shots all day, and even managed to get away with them. “I just hope I can keep going for all four rounds this week. I’ve been striking the ball well lately, even though I missed the cut on the Challenge Tour in Ireland last week. So the game’s definitely there or thereabouts at the moment.”

Andersson Hed was almost caught by Tony Carolan, who also started on the back nine, but the Australian made a bogey on his penultimate hole the 389-yard eighth, and only a birdie at the last got him back to five under.
Micheal Curtain also dropped a shot on the eighth hole but he made amends with an eagle at the 500-yard 9th to turn in a 33, and with three birdies and one bogey on the back nine moved him to five under.

“My game’s been ticking along quite nicely lately, but today everything really clicked into gear,” Curtain said.
“I didn’t do anything spectacular out there – I just didn’t make any silly errors. Over the past few weeks I’ve got off to great starts, but then pushing too hard has cost me dear. So I’ve just tried to play smart golf, and it’s worked for me so far.”

One stroke back at -4 are Spaniard Carlos Del Moral who also eagled the ninth to cover the front nine with best score of the day: 32, and England’s James Morrison who did not drop a single shot in his round of 67.

Also, Argentina’s Clodomiro Carranza, made a hole-in-one at the par 3 17th and won a Renault Twingo.
